Tampons and pads are necessities, yet 27 states still tax them as luxuries.

Since the tampon tax only applies to people who menstruate, it’s not just unfair, it's sex-based discrimination and therefore unconstitutional and illegal.

Since launching this national effort, 32 states have introduced measures to eliminate the tax, and 13 have seen success. We continue to fight to take on the remaining states, and won’t stop until this tax is ended across the U.S. Because it’s time for menstrual equity—for all.

History of the repeal of the Tampon Tax in Michigan:

Lafayette American connected to Period Equity in early 2020 through the leading advocate in Michigan, Bekah Page-Gourley. Period Equity filed a class action lawsuit in August 2020 challenging Michigan's tampon tax as unconstitutional sex discrimination. At the same time, the #mipad coalition began a grassroots campaign to repeal the Michigan Tampon Tax in summer 2021. The combination of legal expertise, advocacy, activism, and excellent branding and design, brought the tampon tax to an end in late 2021.
